After an interesting year of constantly changing plans, it was lovely to take the chance to wind down a bit this month.
My family and I drove to the Yorke Peninsula, and explored Dhilba Guuranda – Innes National Park, where we really got a chance to slow down, take in this rugged landscape, and discovered stunning beach after beach. I had meant to do some artwork on the trip, but never really got around to it. Sometimes it’s nice just to spend time being present with family.
The speed limit in the National Park is 40km/h, which is a really good idea, as there is lots of wildlife! On a couple of occasions, we got caught behind some emus who were walking on the road with their chicks. We laughed as we crept along behind them, patiently waiting for them to be on their way, while they took up the whole road, and clearly couldn’t care less. Sometimes there’s nothing else to do, but be patient. In any case, we had no where else to be but right there in the moment.
In mid January, I heard that five of my paintings had been accepted into the Victor Harbor Art Show. This show is a popular art event in South Australia, and I am so pleased to be a part of it again. It will be held on Warland Reserve in Victor Harbor from Friday 8 January to Saturday 16 January, 2021. The show will commence with a ticketed preview event on Friday 8th January, and will then be open to the public from Saturday 9 – 16 January from 9.30am – 8.30pm. Adults $8, Children under 16 free.
The space between Christmas and New Years is always a bit of no-man’s land where space and time cease to exist… I, like many others, find myself thinking about the past year, taking note of my progress, and looking forward to the next, dreaming big and making plans for the future. My work has come a long way in the last 12 months, and I have learnt a lot. The next 12 months will be about implementing that knowledge, growing my art practice, and working on larger pieces.
