It’s 2021 – can you believe it? I still feel like I’m in 2020.
Each year, I like to look back upon the previous year, take note of how far I’ve come, goals achieved, and make new plans for the next.
In 2020, I completed two courses, went on an art retreat, finished more work than I have ever done before, entered art shows I had never entered before, and made some good sales. I created my website, and started writing a newsletter (you can check out my previous newsletters here).
While it was a difficult year, looking back, I discovered it was also quite a successful one. I reached most of my goals, and am on track for the others. I find that an end of year assessment is a good time to dream big, to think about what is really important, and take aim.

This month, the 42nd Victor Harbor Art Show was held on Warland Reserve in Victor Harbor. It is a very popular art event in South Australia, held by the Rotary Club of Victor Harbor. Coordinated and staffed by volunteers, proceeds from the exhibition go to the local community, as well as to humanitarian projects overseas, and to Australian Rotary Health, a Rotary initiative providing grants, scholarships, and research into a range of medical conditions and mental health for Australians. I am overjoyed to have sold four of the five paintings I entered in the show. It is awesome validation that I’m headed in the right direction, my paintings are resonating with people, and I can’t help but to do a little happy dance every time I sell a painting..
One person who purchased a painting emailed me to describe to me where she had put the painting, and the story behind the other pieces it was surrounded by. It was so lovely to hear that she had bonded with and understood the essence of the painting so well. I knew it had found it’s forever home. In some way, just like each painting dictates to me who it wants to be, I almost feel it was created just for her.
Painting is a most interesting journey!
The next 12 months will be about implementing the knowledge I’ve gained over the last few years, growing my art practice, and working on larger pieces.
