I think that the best food in the world is eggs. I could eat them every day, but I still have trouble making poached eggs.

The first thing I ever sold was the flowers from our garden when I was about 4 or 5. I sold them from a table set up on the footpath outside our house. I also sold homemade lemonade, and had a pet detective agency with my best friend. When I was 16, I took some arty nature photographs, made some cards and sold them in a local shop.

My first study post high school was in Graphic Design. This was before computers were included, and we had life drawing included as part of our studio work. Our model was the instructor’s boyfriend, and his features were the least symmetrical I have ever seen before or since. I thought it was fascinating.

My first art exhibition was at the Carclew Youth Arts Centre when I was possibly 15. I dismantled a baby doll and nailed parts of it to a piece of wood along with a poem I had written and dripped wax on it to resemble blood. Serious teen angst!

When I was a little kid, my father asked me that age old question, “What came first, the chicken or the egg?” It really baked my noodle, and for the next few weeks, I drew chickens coming out of eggs everywhere, trying to figure it out. I even drew on the inside of our EK Holden above my car seat, on walls, on fruit.

I never did figure it out though.
