SALA Festival – A busy month for Artists

The South Australian Living Artists Festival… the month that was

For artists in South Australia, August can be a crazy time of year. For me, I also have the birthdays of my two favourite people to prepare for. So, I hadn’t planned on doing the SALA Festival this year, but the universe thought otherwise!

Earlier this year, I entered the Gallery M Open Contemporary Art Prize, and was pretty happy when they notified me that my painting ‘Scourge’ had been chosen as a finalist. I am pleased to say that it sold to a savvy private collector before it even got hung.

Abstact painting by Kathryn Gruber in Red, blue, green and white.

Then, I checked out Co.Gallery which had recently opened up down the road, and the curator happened to be looking for someone to exhibit for SALA, which was opening in just three weeks. Eek! Fortunately, I’d been painting up a storm, and had enough pieces to pull together at the last minute. It was still a hectic few weeks putting everything together, but we made it!

The exhibition at Co.Gallery was a great experience. I had 22 pieces on display, and the opening night was a hive of activity. It’s always so delicious to mingle and talk art with likeminded people, and Co.Gallery has a lovely, cosy vibe to it.

I even brought out several older works for the occasion – paintings from my representational days, of beaches and the Australian landscape.

Thanks to all who came to check out the work during August.

Last week the exhibition finished, but I’m looking forward to entering some art shows coming up later in the year. I’ll keep you posted!
